Consultations
Consultation times: Surgery Hours Caneland Medical Phones Open Appointments Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:30pm 8:00am - 5:00pm Saturday 8:00am - 12:00 noon 8:00am - 12:00 noon After hours: When the surgery is closed, our doctors work with other practices to provide after hours care at the GP Mater Private After Hours Service (Mater hospital, 76 Willetts Rd, North Mackay; ph: 4965 5444). No private medical insurance is required, but a private fee is charged. Mackay Base Hospital Emergency Department (Bridge Rd, South Mackay) provides a free after hours service for emergencies. Additional information about Caneland Medical: Appointment times: all standard consults by appointments are 10 minutes. Longer consults are available on request. If your medical condition is urgent, please let the receptionist know when you phone or when you present to the reception desk. Patients without appointments will be seen as soon as possible, but they may have to wait unless their condition is urgent. Please let us know in advance if you are unable to keep an appointment, so we can allow another patient to have an appointment. Failure to cancel and appointment will be charged to the patient. Out of surgery visits: A doctor can visit you at home if you are too sick to come to the surgery and live in the local Mackay area. Visits are also arranged for hospital and nursing homes. Privacy policy: Your medical record is a confidential document. It is the policy of this practice to maintain security of your personal health information at all times and to ensure that this information is only available to authorized staff members. Telephone advice: Reception takes phone enquiries for the doctors. Calls will not be connected through to the doctors while consulting, unless urgent. If the doctor is with a patient, a message will be taken and your call returned later. Reminder systems: Caneland Medical has a computerized reminder system for various health checks, including pap smears and immunisations. If you would prefer not to be on such a reminder system, please inform one of the doctors or receptionists. Test results are available by phone between 2pm and 4pm. It the patient�s responsibility to phone up or make an appointment to see their doctor and ask for their own results. If further investigation, treatment or explanation is required, your doctor may request you to come in for a follow up appointment. Repeat prescriptions and continuing referrals: Some regular medications and continuing referrals may be obtained without a consultation � we prefer your last consultation has been within the last 3 months and that you give at least 48 hours notice. A $15 fee is charged for this service. Feedback: We welcome suggestions regarding our service.
